This really makes you appreciate what goes into making a simple logo like the Superman "S" as it goes from 2D-3D in this tutorial.
They started with this:

And ended with this:

The top logo reminds me of the comic book Superman logo, but the depth and texture of the second finished one seems to belong in the blockbuster film and would define an alien from a foreign planet. The lighting feels gritty and intense.
